Horror History: The Mystery of the Lost Colony of Roanoke

In the late 16th century, a group of English settlers established the first English colony in the New World on Roanoke Island, off the coast of present-day North Carolina. Led by John White, this pioneering group sought to build a new life in the wilderness of the Americas.

However, their dreams turned to nightmares when John White returned from a supply run to England in 1590 to find the colony completely deserted — a ghost town devoid of any trace of its inhabitants. The only clue left behind was the word "CROATOAN" carved into a tree, leaving historians and archaeologists baffled for centuries.

What happened to the settlers? Did they vanish into thin air, or were they consumed by something lurking in the shadows of the New World? The mystery of the Lost Colony of Roanoke remains one of the most chilling unsolved mysteries in American history.
